ARLINGTON, Va. – Amber Allman has been named vice president of advocacy, press and member communications at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. In this role, Allman will lead the team responsible for earned, paid, social media and member communications efforts—all with NRECA’s advocacy efforts as a central focus.
“Amber is exceptionally well suited to lead this team, which plays an integral role in advancing NRECA’s efforts in Washington,” NRECA CEO Jim Matheson said. “She has a wealth of experience driving strategic communications and public relations, and that will directly enhance our ongoing effort to tell the co-op story. I’m thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
Allman will start with NRECA on September 22. She most recently served as head of PR and marketing communications at alliantgroup, a management consulting firm. Before that, she was head of corporate communications and events for Gannett/USA Today and head of global public affairs at Yahoo.
“I’m excited to join NRECA and work on behalf of America’s electric cooperatives as they power and empower families and businesses across the nation,” Allman said. “NRECA is a leader in Washington and a tireless advocate for rural communities. I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead this team and help tell the co-op story.”
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national trade association representing nearly 900 local electric cooperatives. From growing suburbs to remote farming communities, electric co-ops serve as engines of economic development for 42 million Americans across 56 percent of the nation’s landscape. As local businesses built by the consumers they serve, electric cooperatives have meaningful ties to rural America and invest $15 billion annually in their communities.
